V s\u00fa\u010dasnosti sa oddelenie zameriava na v\u00fdvoj keramick\u00fdch materi\u00e1lov pre aplik\u00e1cie vy\u017eaduj\u00face vysok\u00fa odolnos\u0165 vo\u010di oteru a materi\u00e1lov pre vysoko-teplotn\u00e9 aplik\u00e1cie, pr\u00edpravu transparentn\u00fdch materi\u00e1lov, keramick\u00fdch neoxidov\u00fdch kompozitov s vysokou tepelnou alebo elektrickou vodivos\u0165ou a tie\u017e pr\u00edpravu luminoforov na b\u00e1ze nitridov a oxinitridov. Oddelenie sa venuje tie\u017e \u00faprave mikro\u0161trukt\u00fary nov\u00fdch typov multifunk\u010dn\u00fdch keramick\u00fdch kompozitov so samodiagnostickou schopnos\u0165ou a in-situ modifik\u00e1cii hran\u00edc z\u0155n, vzh\u013eadom na k\u013e\u00fa\u010dov\u00fa \u00falohu ich vysokoteplotn\u00fdch mechanick\u00fdch vlastnost\u00ed.
